PDP appeals Governor to release Hurriyat (G) spokesman

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday demanded immediate release of Hurriyat Conference (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar on humanitarian grounds so that he could attend his ailing wife who is suffering from a life threatening disease.

In a statement issued here, senior PDP leader and party’s state secretary Noor Mohammad Sheikh has said that Akbar’s wife is battling serious ailment and needs her husband by her side at present.  He added that the entire family of Ayaz Akbar is reeling under trying circumstances and has already appealed the governor to release the incarcerated separatist.

He said the government should release Akbar on humanitarian grounds at an earliest so that his family which is in absolute perturbation at present could heave a sigh of relief.

Sheikh said that there is enough space available in law of the land to take a holistic view of the issue and address it on humanitarian grounds.

According to Sheikh, releasing Akbar from prison will send a positive signal across and contribute in creating a conducive atmosphere for making peace permeant in the otherwise strife torn state.
